Painting Tales: Life of Venus in the XXI

Can we "get to Botticelli," and why does Venus look forlorn?

And what might Venus dream of, if she were living in our time?

At least that was the question I was asking myself following a trip to the Uffizi Gallery in Florence, and that's the answer I gave myself, painted right here in my Barrie studio.

Blue dream, imagination, on the left: Venus not as a Renaissance figure but as a modern lady.

I tried to retain Botticelli's elegance but with the brightness and sadness of today.

The oil impressionist painting was produced in a composition of life and fantasy.

Myth enters our homes: never-ending beauty and life fantasy.

I received a lot of feedback from one of my exhibitions that presented this painting. Here is one of them:

"Wow! This painting really stopped me. I saw myself in the image, like I was holding a thousand little worries, but still trying to look graceful.

It feels like trying to hold everything together while staying strong for everyone else.

It is profound and emotional, yet it is immensely reassuring to know that someone comprehends the quiet storm we endure."
