Elena Gaevskaya—Artist Behind the Brushstrokes.
Learn how her journey from fashion design to expressive oil painting shaped the artworks she creates today.
Experience-driven reflections.
My painting approach is based on careful observation and my feelings.
I don't try to show the outside world; instead, I try to create a sense of presence, which is when form, colour, and space come together in a calm, intense way.
I mostly work instinctively, allowing each picture to develop through a gradual process of improvement. Layers are added and taken away, motions are thought about, and composition happens on its own.
This process resembles the gradual emergence of memory and emotion through resonance, rather than a sudden surge.
I attempt to keep the paintings open by limiting the story and omitting obvious symbols.
This allows the spectator to engage in a personal conversation rather than receiving a predetermined meaning.
The pieces serve as places for thought, rewarding extended periods of focus.
I constantly try to paint with the idea that someone will live with them.
They are not loud pronouncements that take over a room; they are subtle presences that change the mood of the space.
I would like to hope they reveal new details over time, illustrating how the perceptions of those who see them daily change.
